~ Four teams,
one on each side at each end, coach in the middle. ~
The coach calls out a number, and a type of shot eg five layups. ~ Each team tries to be the first to score the specified number of shots. ~ When one team has
reached the target, teams move anti/clockwise around the court, so they are shooting at different ends and with different

SHOOTING DRILLS
Horseshoe
~
Two lines on the baseline, in line with the sides of the backboard. The first person in the right hand line
has a ball, as does the second person in the left hand line. ~ The first person in the left hand line runs around and receives the ball from
the first person in the right hand line. They take a shot, then pass the ball to the next person in the line they received
the ball from. ~ After
they have passed the ball, the passer runs behind the shooter and receives the (different) ball from the line where the first
shooter came from. They shoot the ball then pass the ball to the line from which they received it.
*
Pass and run behind. Shoot, pass to the line you got the ball from, join that line.
One side foul line
~ Two lines,
facing each other at the foul line extended. One line is the shooting line and one the passing. ~ The first shooter runs in and receives the ball from
the passing line at about the middle of the foul line. ~ The shooter pivots and shoots. They get their own rebound and pass the ball to the
passing line, then join the passing line. ~
After the passer has passed the ball, they join the shooting line.
* The shooter
should receive the ball stepping and pivoting with their base line foot, then squaring up to the basket.
V Add a
v-lead ending at the foul line, instead of running straight. V Change sides so the player has to pivot with the other foot. V Add a shot fake before the
shot. V Add

Knockout
~ One
line on the foul line, two balls. ~ The
first person takes a shot from the foul line. ~
If they get it in, they pass it back to the third person in line. If they miss, they can keep shooting from
wherever they like until they get it in or... ~
The second person can take their shot from the foul line as soon as the first person has had theirs. If they
miss, they can keep shooting from wherever they like until they get it in. If they get it in before the person in front of
them, the person in front is out. ~
After the first person either gets it in or gets out, they pass the ball to the third person in line.
If the third person gets it in before the second person, the second person is out.
*
Last person left in wins.
Titanic
~ One line on
the foul line, one ball. ~ The
first person takes a shot from the foul line. ~
If they get it in, they go to the end of the line. If they miss, they are on the Titanic (form a line from
the low post outwards). ~
The second person takes a shot from the foul line. If they get it in, they have saved the first person
in line on Titanic. If they miss, they are on Titanic.
V
If there is only one person left not on Titanic, their shot can save everyone. V If everyone is on Titanic, the coach’s
shot can save everyone.
Bank
~ One line on
the foul line, one ball. The team has three dollars in the bank. ~ Each player takes a shot from the foul line. If they get it in, one dollar is added
to the bank. If they miss, a dollar is taken away.
~ If
the team gets to a certain figure eg minus five dollars in the bank, they get a penalty. ~ If the team gets to a certain figure
eg eight dollars, they win / get a drink break.
Shoot Miss Swish
~ One
line at the bottom of the circle, one ball. ~ Each player takes a shot from the bottom of the circle. A miss is minus one, a shot
which touched the ring or backboard is nothing, and a swish is plus one.
V Penalties
can be added eg a miss is a full court sprint, a shot which touched the ring or backboard is a half court sprint, and a swish
is nothing. V Scores
can be kept individually or as a team. If a player/team gets to a certain number eg minus five, they get a penalty. If a player/team
gets to a certain figure eg ten (or the number of players) they win / get a drink break.
PASSING

~
One player in the middle of the circle with a ball. The rest of the players around the outside of the circle,
one with a ball. ~ The
player in the middle passes the ball to the person on the left on the person with the ball. ~ The person with the ball passes the ball
to the person in the centre and they pass it to the next person without a ball.
*
If the players are numbered one to eight around the circle, and the player in the centre is C, the passing
sequence goes like this: 1 to C, C to 3, 2 to C, C to 4, 3 to C, C to 5, 4 to C, C to 6, 5 to C, C to 7, 6 to C, C to 8, 7
to C, C to 1, 8 to C, C to 2
V
Call out "Change" meaning change of direction. V Speed up so that the pass from the player with the ball occurs at the same
time as the pass goes from the player in the centre to the next outside person. V Instead of a circle, have a straight line with one person out in front of
everyone else. Go down and back once, then the person on the end takes over passing, and the passer joins the other end. V Have two teams in lines. The first
team where everyone has passed the ball down and back wins.
Tunnel Ball
~ Two
teams, each with a ball. Straight lines with players one behind the other and the ball at the front. ~ The players pass the ball through their
legs to the back of the line. ~
The last person dribbles the ball to the front of the line, and it is passed back again. ~ The winner is the
first team to get back to the beginning ie the first player in line is again first in line.
V Over and Under:
Instead of passing only through the legs, the first player passes it through their legs, then the second player passes backwards
over their head, then under, then over and so on.
Cannon
~ One
straight line, with players one behind the other. One player facing them with a ball. ~ The player with the ball passes to the
first person in line who passes it back then sits down. ~ The player with the ball keeps passing until the last person in line receives the
ball. The last person dribbles the ball and becomes the passer, as the passer joins the front of the line.
V Can be used
as a race between two teams, although passes tend to get a bit wild.
Pass and Clap
~ Players
stand in a circle, one ball. ~
The players pass the ball across the circle to anyone they like. ~ The receiver must clap before they catch
the ball. ~ A
player is out if the catch the ball and haven’t clapped, or if they clapped and the ball wasn’t passed to them.
V The coaches
are in the middle of the circle with the balls and so have more control over what kind of passes are being made to what kind
of players. V Instead
of being automatically out, each player starts on five lives. V As well as points being lost for not clapping, if you were the player who
caused the loss of points, you get one point ie the points are just transferred among the players.
FULL COURT DRILLS
Three Man Weave
Three lines on the base line, ball in the middle line. The person in the middle passes to the person on the left,
then runs behind them, so the person with the ball is now in the centre. The (new) person in the centre passes to the right
then runs behind them, so the person with the ball is now in the centre. The (new) person in the centre passes to the left
then runs behind them, so the person with the ball is now in the centre.
Finish with a layup. Three Man Weave back to 2-on-1: After the drill has reached the other end of
the court and the layup shot, the shooter goes back in defence and the other two are on offence.
Five Man Weave
Five lines on the base line, ball in the centre. The person in the middle passes to the person on their left, then
runs behind, all the way to the left. The person with the ball passes to the person on their right, then runs behind, all
the way to the right. The person with the ball passes to the person on their left, then runs behind, all the way to the
right.
Finish with a layup. Five Man Weave back to 3-on-2: After the drill has reached the other end of
the court and the layup shot, the shooter and the last passer go back in defence and the other three are on offence.
5-on-5-on-5
Team A on defence, Team B on offence, Team C down the other end. Team A and Team B play until Team A scores or Team
B gets a steal. Team B has to get through Team A’s defence to half way, where Team C is on defence and Team B is

defence to half way, where Team A is on defence and Team C is on defence.
Three line passing
Three lines on the base line, ball in the middle. The person in the middle passes to the person on the right who passes
it back. The person in the middle passes to the person on the left who passes it back. The person in the middle passes to
the person on the left who... (A) Does a layup. The drill can then go the same on the way back or can go into 2-on-1 with
the shooter becoming the defender. (B) Passes it back. The centre person either does a layup or a jump shot from the foul
line. The shooter becomes the defender and the players go into 2-on-1. (C) Passes it back. The two outside players swing
and receive balls from two players who were waiting on the foul line extended. Usually one person goes high (elbow) and one
low (low post). While these players take their shots and go to their new positi s at the foul line extended, the centre
player and the two passers become the three passers on the way back.
Full court layups 1
Players in line under both baskets. Coaches (or two players) on the foul lines. Ball in each line. The first players
at each end pass the ball to the coach, then sprint to the other end, via where the centre line meets the side line. The
coach passes the ball to the player on the run and the player does a layup. The next person in line gets the rebound and
passes the ball to the coach, then sprints to the other end for the layup.
If the coach can do long passes, the pass can go from the player on the baseline to the coach, then back to that player
when they are down the other end, which enables players to practice receiving long passes.
Full court layups 2
Three lines on one side line, at the foul lines extended and the half way line, and one player (the shooter) in the key
with a ball. The shooter bounces the ball off the backboard then outlets to the first player in the closest line. The
shooter then sprints for the other end as the ball is passed from the outlet receiver to the first player in the next line,
to the first player in the final line. They pass the ball to the shooter who does a layup. After the people on the
side line have passed the ball, they run to the following positions: the outlet player to the diagonally opposite foul line
extended, the centre player to the opposite centre side line, and the final passer to their diagonally opposite foul line
extended. The shooter gets their own rebound and outlets the ball, repeating the drill. After the outlet player has
passed the ball, they go to the end of the line at half way. After the centre player has passed the ball, they go to the final
line (which passes to the shooter). The player who passed to the shooter gets the rebound and becomes the shooter. The original
shooter joins the outlet line.
Reverse direction so players are shooting with their non-preferred hand. Add another ball or two. This means more
players are involved at all times and no-one is standing around.
PENALTIES
